The International Building Code, Section 107 outlines the process by which the building official reviews and approves the submitted construction documents. The following outlines the process to be implemented for the University.
1. Initial Review: A PDF file, bookmarked with sheet information, of construction documents and project manual (if not included within construction documents) is to be submitted to the Project Manager who will forward them to the Office of the Building Official.
2. Code Review Comments: The building official or his duly appointed agent will provide code review comments for the Initial Review of the construction documents. These review comments will be returned to the project manager. The Project Manager will forward the comments to the consultant for response.
The design professional responsible is to respond to each code review comment, noting the corrective action to be taken. Where corrections to drawings and specifications are to be part of the corrective action, the entire set of construction drawings are to be resubmitted. The review process cycle will continue until such point that the building official or his duly appointed agent provides a written code review that the construction documents are ready for code approval.
3. Code Approval: Upon the issuance of the code review indicating that the construction documents are
ready for approval, the PDF set of documents will be stamped by the Building Official
as "Reviewed for Code Compliance".
4. Permit: Once the code approved construction documents are issued, the contractor may submit the Building Permit Application (attainable on this site under "Construction Phase") to the Building Official. Once approved, the permit is to be kept at the project site during construction. The approved construction documents must also be available at the project site either electronically or one full paper set.
