From October 5 to October 18, UTA will be working to improve safety by installing
traffic control mechanisms at the corner of South Wasatch and Mario Capecchi Drive
where traffic crosses TRAX. Though safety gates will not be installed until next year,
extensive site preparation requires lane and curb modifications, turn lane improvements,
and trenching to connect utilities to the signaling system which will eventually support
the arms of the safety gates. The intersection of South Wasatch Drive and Mario Capecchi,
just to the south of the Eccles Broadcast Center, will be closed for the entire two
week duration of the project.
From Sunday, October 5 to the 16 southbound traffic on Mario Capecchi Drive will be reduced to one lane, both north bound lanes will remain open during this period. From October 16 until the 18th, Mario Capecchi Drive will be reduced to one north and one south bound lane.
Staff, patients and visitors should plan for increased commute times on these days.
During construction the O Zone shuttle will continue to operate, however there will be no service to the TRAX station. The O Zone route will run from University Hospital to the O Zone parking lot via North Campus Drive (see map below). TRAX service will not be interrupted during this project.
