Spence and Cleone Eccles Football Center

About This Project:

The Football Center Rendering

The new Spence and Cleone Eccles Football Center on The University of Utah campus along Guardsman Way is an updated facility that allows the team and program to meet the expected requirements from the Pac 12 and to better meet the needs of the players and coaching staff. The design includes the use of highly energy efficient equipment, windows and insulation with the goal to attain a LEED Gold certification.

The design challenge of this project was to accomplish the requirements of the new Pac 12 on a conservative budget. It included demolishing 75% of the existing building and making the new building fit within the existing area available. Height restraints and the request not to overpower the two buildings on either side of the new facility coupled with the need to connect the new building to the existing strength and conditioning areas proved challenging for all the teams that competed for the project. The scope of the Football Center also includes Sport Medicine and a cafeteria that will be available to all Athletics at The University of Utah.
