Green Lab

Staff working in lab

This three-step certification enables your lab to:

  • Gain public recognition and boost grant competitiveness
  • Foster sustainability culture within U employees and future graduates
  • Enhance collaboration and engagement
  • Promote innovation
  • Save resources and money
  • Serve as a model for other labs

My Green Lab Certification is considered the gold standard for laboratory sustainability best practices around the world. The program provides scientists and the teams that support laboratories with actionable ways to make meaningful change. See the My Green Lab website  for more information about the program. Certification is valid for 2 years.

The Sustainability Lab Lead can be any member of the lab team and does not need to be a PI or manager. Because the certification process may take six months or longer, we recommend selecting a consistent point of contact.

If you are a sustainability-focused lab member, leader, or PI, please contact energy@fm.utah.edu to sign up. No formal application is required. An email or call with the lab manager and sustainability lead is all it takes.

Please Note: Eligible labs consist of three or more people working in a shared space, using shared equipment, and operating under a common management structure. Multiple PIs and lab groups may participate together (up to 100 personnel). Groups of 10–30 participants are encouraged, as at least 50% of personnel must complete the surveys.
