The University campus includes over 160 acres of maintained turf in multiple landscapes. Varying activities and events take place on our turf; we seek to provide an inviting and safe area for people on campus. The Turf team works closely with our University Integrated Pest Management team and strives to implement and maintain the best management practices for lawns with varying uses, within our limitations

In general, the minimum height of cut for the University of Utah is three inches. However, as a department we take into account multiple variables when determining the height of cut for different lawns. Intended use, traffic patterns, season, irrigation interruptions, weather conditions, and best turf management practices are some of the things we consider when determining optimal turf height.
